Director Government Affairs Cisco Dubai

Job Description:
Government and Community Relations is a global corporate function reporting into Cisco's Chief Marketing Officer. It represents Cisco to governments worldwide. GCR works to build relationships with governments, to educate governments and regulators about Cisco and the technology industry, and to advocate public policy positions consistent with Cisco’s vision to use technology to change the way the world works, lives, plays and learns.
Role Description

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Senior Director, Government Affairs for the EMEAR region, this executive will be based in Dubai or Jordan (Amman) and will be the leader of government affairs and public policy for Cisco in the Middle East, including Turkey.

The candidate for this position will be expected to be a thought leader both within the company and with government officials and agencies, demonstrating subject matter expertise and acting as a collaborative partner and influencer.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Lead and support Cisco’s engagements with key government leaders and policy makers in the Middle East region; further develop key relationships between officials and policy makers in the Middle East and Cisco executives.
• Be responsible for managing and advocating Cisco’s core public policy initiatives in core countries in the Middle East; managing our involvement on these topics with key trade associations in the region.
• Identify, analyse and prioritise emerging policy issues and prepare responses such as position papers, presentations, publication pieces and briefings.
• Represent Cisco in relevant hearings, meetings, conferences and seminars.
• Work collaboratively with the Vice President for Middle East, the SVP for Emerging, the General Managers of key countries in the region and other senior Cisco executives, and advise on current political and policy trends in the region and potential implications for the business.

Role Requirements & Competencies

Required skills:

• Minimum of 10 years experience in government affairs & public policy environment and comprehensive understanding of the operation of governments and regulatory agencies involved in tech policy issues in the region
• Political and government affairs experience in the public and/or private sector: e.g. having worked in an agency or government bodies; or having worked as a government professional in a medium to large international corporation, trade association, law firm or consulting firm.
• Familiar with current policy priorities and challenges in the ICT sector.
• Executive presence; strong advocacy, communication and collaboration skills.
• Must be a self-starter who can manage multiple challenges simultaneously.

Education:

• Advanced degree in law, political science, business, economics or similar.
• European law studies or Masters degree abroad is a plus.
• English mother tongue; another European language if possible.
